Spice jet airline was incorporated in May 2005 as a low cost carrier based in Delhi. Within years of its launch it has made waves and climbed on to the second position for the second largest market share in India among the low cost airlines. The Skytrax magazine voted Spice Jet as the best low cost air carrier in south Asia in 2007.Earlier known as royal airways, this airline is owned and promoted by Mr. Ajay Singh and the Kansangra family. It marked its entry into the segment with a bang by introducing tickets at prices of Rs. 99(2$) plus taxes.
With Mumbai, Chennai, and Delhi airports as hubs, it flies to Hyderabad, Guwahati, Goa, Kochi, Bangalore, Srinagar, Coimbatore, and Varanasi among many others. It aims to compete with the ac classes of the Indian railways. It has a fleet size of 21 aircrafts with 9 aircrafts pending for delivery. It has come up with various innovative cost cutting measures. Like other carriers in the segment, it also does not provide complimentary meals onboard but have the facility where one can buy their own food.
