Jet airways is based in Mumbai and is one of the key domestic fliers in India. After Air India, it is the second largest airline in terms of market share. Its main centre is the Mumbai international airport. It was set up as an air taxi operator on 1 April 1992 and gradually started its commercial operations on 5 may 1993. The company is listed and traded in the Bombay stock exchange.
Jet airlines is owned by Mr. Naresh Goyal who controls and trades about 80% of the company’s stock. It also owns two low cost carriers. As compared to other international rivals, it offers international tickets at comparatively lower prices. Its frequent flier program Jet privilege is quite renowned. Very often than not, it has been adjudged as India’s best domestic carrier. The carrier plans to extend its international operations t North America and the Middle East. It bought out rival air Sahara on in April 2007 in one of the biggest deals in the aviation sector in India. Jet Airways flights offers three cabin classes- first, premiere, and economy class.

In the year 2010, Air India will become a member of Star Alliance- the world’s airlines alliance in the world. With a seat factor of more than 60%, air India’s revenues surpass $1billion. It operates entirely on airbuses, earning it the award of the world’s largest operator of airbuses. It is well known for its “maharaja” services and has an entire maharaja lounge for its business and executive class fliers. In 2007, it was merged with Indian airlines.
